The Eagle Mountain International Church in Newark, Texas, run by Kenneth Copeland Ministries, has long taken strong anti-vaccination stance. Now, it is the center of a major outbreak of measles in the United States.
When the sheeple listen to their know-nothing pastors without question, disaster usually follows. In recent years more and more extreme fundamentalist Christians congregations full of paranoia and distrust of the “evil liberal agenda” have been choosing not to vaccinate their own children against deadly diseases. This is just another example of child neglect and abuse justified with religious belief and based on twisted interpretations of their mythology books and biased information provided by their church leaders. In my opinion, not having your child vaccinated is akin to withholding medical attention when a child is seriously ill when life-saving treatments can be easily provided.
Here is the story in the news about the recent outbreak of measles in the Texas megachurch led by the daughter of televangelist Kenneth Copeland, Terri Pearsons, where the church leader is now eating crow and encouraging congregants to bring their children to the church for vaccinations (because God isn’t going to protect them from deadly diseases after all).
Why did the Jewish people, why did they not die out during the plague? Because the Bible told them how to be clean, told them how to disinfect, told them there was something contagious. And the interesting thing of it, it wasn’t a medical doctor per se who took care of those things, it was the priesthood. It was the ministers, it was those who knew how to take the promises of God as well as the commandments of God to take care of things like disinfection and so forth.
Many of the things that we have in medical practice now actually are things you can trace back into scripture. It’s when we find out what’s in the scripture that we have wisdom.
Since the outbreak the Kenneth Copeland Ministries has issued this statement:
Kenneth Copeland Ministries’ position regarding dealing with any medical condition involving yourself or someone in your family is to first seek the wisdom of God, His Word, and appropriate medical attention from a professional that you know and trust. Apply wisdom and discernment in carrying out their recommendations for treatment. This would include: vaccinations, immunizations, surgeries, prescriptions, or any other medical procedures.
Church leaders are not doctors and religion is no replacement for Medical Science. Reading their post on their website and the comments that follow with believers making shit up as they go along trying to reconcile their supernatural beliefs and modern medicine and science is amusing and pathetic at the same time. God wants them to seek medical help because after all God created medicine to help people and they should still trust God above everything else but don’t wait around for him to help, go get medical help and then give all the praise to the man upstairs.
