Politics, Asleep at The Wheel

In the “What Has Religion Done For You Lately?” file. I think it is important to note that religion of all stripes are still trying to figure out what the originators of their religion really meant. So much analysis that leads to one interpretation or another all the while missing the great big problem. The books where written and cobbled together by a bunch of primitives. Primitives who blamed natural events on god. Primitives who were starving or otherwise malnourished. And many exhibiting what we now know to be mental illness. Illnesses which by the way would lead us to place them under supervised observation to keep them from hurting themselves or others.

Advance through time to the current era where science provides us with so much better living. I really have to wonder what it is that drives people to still cling to their primitive beliefs. While all around they see the results of a scientific civilization going on non-stop night and day and globally as well. Science contributes to everyones life without discrimination. The idea though that we are living in a time that the religious have designated as the END TIMES is quite disturbing for very practical reasons.

The Religious Right have seemingly hijacked the Republican party. The politicians can no longer run for office without representing themselves as some hackneyed backwater hillbilly who loves Jesus. Are willfully ignorant of educational standards that were readily available through public education even 50 years ago. And who try to portray themselves as just another Guy/Gal that you’d like to have a beer with. While all the while reassuring their constituents that they have the answers to today’s great problems.

“Whenever we are talking about facts, certain opinions must be excluded. That is what it is to have a domain of expertise.
That is what it is to have knowledge count.”

I’ve used this quote before and use it again to address the issue of know nothing politicians.
Perry, Bachman, Romney and the rest of them seem to be in a race to the bottom. Their campaigns are rife with misstatements, half-truths, lies and innuendo. They claim a special place in the bosom of god yet revile each other every chance they get. Just like the good xians that they are. Their domain of expertise? I don’t know that they have one. Each of them has some type of financial success but if it came from their own merit I don’t know. I really have been having a hard time just listening to their drivel and feel like if they get elected that it really could be the end of the world. Or at least the end of the world as we know it.

I am happy about the fact that we no longer have to listen to the news to hear or see what is happening. We are no longer stuck with the media’s inability to offer real news. Each misstep by the know nothings is recorded and hopefully people do realize that these are not politicians that can lead us out of the mess which they themselves helped create. And I might add, helped create because of their ideology.

A case in point. Newt Gingrich. This guy is just like a turd that refuses to flush. At the debate in Las Vegas Oct. 18 He said:

“an atheist has no business in the White House.” “Does faith matter? Absolutely,” Gingrich said. “How can you have judgment if you have no faith? How can I trust you with power if you don’t pray?” He continued, “the notion that you are endowed by your creator sets a certain boundary of what we mean by America.” Gingrich said that Americans should value religion first, above morality and knowledge.

Just those few statements indicates how out of step he is. He truly has been living in some alternate reality. But for a serial adulterer who left his sick and dying wife for another woman, what can we expect? I won’t mention his other transgressions but really how can he be trusted? And he has the gall to denigrate almost 20 million people who live without god and do it quite well.

Religion has poisoned the entire American political landscape. And it isn’t what they have done for us so much it is what they have done to us.
On the positive side though. They are bringing up Atheism readily and finally admitting that we are here. Personally I think we scare them. What the fuck will they do when they can no longer lie openly about their made up and imaginary playmates?

And the stupid Congressional Fucktards wasted even more time voting…AGAIN…on one of the dumbest non-job producing items…the, IMO, blatantly anti-constitutional “Official National Motto”…the same item that, in 1956(?) was originally allowed to appear on all our American currency:
The ridiculous, “In God We Trust”!
As far as I’m aware, we’re the ONLY modern, supposedly secular, democracy which has “god” on our money.
    Yeah…totally stupid.
I guess it’s time again to get out the red pen for a little “artistic editing”…
    if you get my drift.
some of you may remember our coverage of that; probably back in the “GifS” days.
[I’ll have to check my files for that relevant paper currency info Site…?]

    In the meantime…
For some, IMHO, serious laughs aimed at some familiar religious insanity…
    check out NonStampCollector’s YouTube Site.
[Lots of nicely done atheist oriented videos.]
For starters (right on the main page), the two part rather highly detailed look at the ridiculous Noah’s Ark scenario is…well…
    you decide?

Gingrich (as he ditches his wife – whichever one he’s on now): “How can you have judgement if you have no faith?”

Me: (Laughing my atheist ass off alongside my atheist husband of 22 years) “Oh, do go on, silly – tell me another!”
